July 17 1989
19 years ago on July 17th 1989, 2 families lives were changed forever.
My daughter received a new kidney, just 2 weeks shy of her 4th birthday.
Today she is 23, an actor/playwright/drama teacher with her whole life ahead of her.
She is also very much in love and has just come home from living for a year with her playwright boyfriend in London. They will now spend the next year writing and staging their shows in Canada.
Sadly, also on that day 19 years ago, a very young boy named Brian Frey died, and my daughter received his kidney.
He was about 2.
I think a lot about all that my daughter would not be without her transplant.
All of the joyous and triumphant moments we've had over the past 19 years that are astoundingly far too numerous to note or even remember.
We have been so very blessed!
But, I know there is another family out there thinking at this time of all that they have lost........ and I am so grateful and very humbled that in their time of grief, they saved my child's life.
If you are reading this, in honour of everyone you hold dear and especially for anyone you have lost...... please hug your loved ones and say a little prayer if you are so inclined, for Brian's family.

We talked about going up that way, but we're not sure we can pull it off as of now. Plane tix are pretty high, etc. The failing economy scares the crap outta me, so we may have to dedicate this summer to staying local. Sucks big time. I'll let you know if plans change though. Time to start playing the lottery, I guess
